Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Oregon Agricultural College Student Branch of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) was established in 1909 from the former Oregon Agricultural College Engineering Association. The ASME Student Branch met twice per month during the academic year to conduct business and hear presentations and papers on mechanical engineering topics. The Branch also participated in the annual Engineering Show and fielded an intramural football team.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers Oregon State College Student Branch Records consist of a volume that includes a historical preface, by-laws, and minutes of Branch meetings. Committee reports, election results, intramural football game scores, and two newspaper clippings describing the Branch's activities are also included. Lists of graduates in mechanical engineering for 1893 through 1920, mining engineering for 1904 through 1920, and industrial arts for 1915 through 1920 are part of the collection.

Of special note in the minutes is a vote at the November 2, 1916 meeting that the "woman member" of the Mechanical Engineering Society be notified of the meetings.
