Historical Note

The Young Alumni Club was established in 1981 as a special interest group for University of Washington alumni who had graduated within ten years of joining. The goal of the group was to encourage recent graduates to become active and contributing members. The Young Alumni Club generally held one event per quarter. Events included speakers, sporting events, and cocktail parties. The Young Alumni Club was also responsible for the annual Oktoberfest and helped with other University of Washington Alumni Association functions. The Oktoberfest fundraiser enabled the Young Alumni Club to endow a scholarship fund, which continues to provide one $1,000 scholarship per year. The Young Alumni Club dissolved in 2004, and the University of Washington Alumni Association did not absorb its activities.
