Joseph M. Flora was a professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and biographer of Vardis Fisher. In addition to his work with Fisher and western writers, Professor Flora has sat on the editorial boards of Studies in Short Fiction, The Southern Literary Journal, The Thomas Wolfe Review, and The Hemingway Review. He has served as president of The Western Literature Association, The Thomas Wolfe Society, the South Atlantic Modern Language Association, and the South Atlantic Association of Departments of English.
