Carl Epping (1819-1885) was a timber merchant, vice consul of Sweden and Norway and vice president of Timber Cutters Bank of Georgia. He was pardoned by President Andrew Johnson for activities during the Civil War. Collection includes a birth certificate for Eugenie-Josephine Galet Perony, 1803, in French with English translation; manuscript letter to "My Young Friend" (Mme E. Beaulard) from John A. Beaulard, 1834, in French; marriage contract, 1850; presidential pardon for Carl Epping, 1865; presidential appointment as vice consul, 1869; Confederate bonds; genealogical information; and correspondence, 1906, of Epping's heirs, including those living in Portland, Oregon, regarding property confiscated by the federal government during the Civil War.
