T. Benny Rushing served as Chair of the Department of Mathematics from 1985 to 1988 and from 1991 to 1993. He was also Dean of the College of Science from 1993 to 1997. This collection contains budgets, correspondence, departmental histories and reviews, grant proposals, meeting minutes, memorandums, newsletters, and reports from Rushing's office files.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

T. Benny Rushing was born October 30, 1941 in Marshville, North Carolina. He earned his undergraduate and masters degrees at Wake Forest University in 1964 and 1965; he later received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 1968. Rushing joined the Department of Mathematics at the University of Utah as an assistant professor in 1969. He served twice as Chair of the Mathematics Department from 1985 to 1988 and from 1991 to 1993. He was also Dean of the College of Science from 1993 to 1997. Rushing died on August 29, 1998.

This collection contains budgets, correspondence, meeting minutes, memoranda, newsletters, grant proposals, and reports from the office files of T. Benny Rushing's administration as Dean of the College of Science. Approximately half of the material is from Hugo Rossi's administration as Dean of the College of Science from 1987 to 1993.
