Summary
The tradition of Founder's Day began in 1900 with a celebration on February 24 to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the University of Deseret, which became the University of Utah in 1892. From 1925 onward, it became customary to have various special events on several days of the "Founder's Day Week," including a banquet with an address, and an assembly featuring winners of an oratorical and essay contest. This collection contains rules governing the oratorical and essay contest from 1958 to 1959, and essays and orations from 1947 to 1959.
