Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Maria Fraser was a Hungarian native who married an American soldier during World War II and came to the United States in 1947. Because her husband was a county commissioner in Libby, Montana for over nineteen years after the war, Mrs. Fraser became involved with the local environmental concerns and was a very active volunteer environmental advocate for many years. She organized many letter writing drives and petitions to try to protect the wilderness areas of northwestern Montana, northern Idaho, and northeastern Washington.
