Album containing 109 black and white photographs, circa 1909-1918, of activities of the Portland Public Schools during World War I. Includes exterior photographs of school buildings, as well as interior views of classrooms and workshops, and classes and activities such as mechanical drawing, forging, wood turning, plumbing, carpentry, textiles, printing, gardening, cobbling, and band. Also included are photographs of student work, including furniture and textiles. Many photographs have labels identifying the school or class depicted. Among the individual schools depicted are Benson Polytechnic School, Holladay School, A. L. Mills Open Air School, Ladd School, Failing School, Washington High School, Fulton Park Elementary School, and Hawthorne School. Some photographs were taken by Gifford Commercial Studio, but the creator of most images in the album is unidentified.
