- This collection contains approximately 75 letters written to Melba Johnson by Cache Valley residents who participated World War II. Both soldiers and nurses responded from U.S. boot camps, Europe, and the Pacific. These letters discuss the war in general, soldiers' duties, the efforts of Cache Valley women in the war, Mormonism and the war, and other similar topics. These letters have been organized alphabetically by the last name of the sender, and those senders who wrote four or more letters have been foldered individually.

Letters written to Melba Johnson by Cache Valley residents who participated World War II.

Beginning in 1943 Melba Johnson of Logan, Utah, a member of the Logan Ninth Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, wrote to Cache Valley soldiers who were serving in World War II (at this time Johnson's husband was the bishop of the Logan Ninth Ward). This collection consists of Johnson's incoming correspondence from soldiers and nurses who responded to her letters and of newspapers clippings about Cache Valley soldiers. The collection contains approximately 75 letters from both male and female residents of Cache Valley who participated in the war effort and spans the period from 1943 to 1945. These letters were written by soldiers and nurses stationed in various locations in the United States (while at boot camps), in Europe, and in the Pacific. These letters discuss the war in general, soldiers' duties, the efforts of Cache Valley women in the war, Mormonism and the war, and other similar topics. These letters have been organized alphabetically by the last name of the sender and those senders who wrote four or more letters have been foldered individually.
