The release of Nelson Mandela from prison and his subsequent run for the presidency of South Africa ended the era of aparteid in that country. The victory of the African National Congress party in 1994 assured the end of white dominance in the country and Nelson Mandela wisely encouraged a peaceful transition throughout his presidency (1994-1999).

The collection includes a limited selection of campaign posters and a few related statements primarily from the African National Congress party. Included is a single National Party poster emphasizing voting for F.W. De Klerk the president at the time of the 1994 election who was replaced by Nelson Mandela.

Also included is the cover page of Time magazine for May 9, 1994 featuring Nelson Mandela and two copies of the publication Argus that helped explain the Peace Accord agreement between the black and white community leadership that allowed for the election to take place.
