Biographical NoteReturn to Top

The collector, Dr. Tim Choy, was a 1964 graduate of Pacific University. For 30 years, he was a Professor of Speech Communications at Moorhead State University in Minnesota. He later served as an Assistant to the President at Hawai'i's Bishop Museum. With interests in art and philanthropy, he made several notable donations to Pacific University and other institutions.

The collection is comprised of approximately 70 carved jade objects collected by Dr. Tim Choy, Pacific University Class of 1964. The objects are accompanied by numbered labels with a brief description and provenance information. Most were acquired in Honolulu or China. The dates and place of creation for each piece are not recorded; they may have been created in China, Korea, and/or other locations. Most measure 5 cm. x 5 cm. or less. Objects include: buttons (18), hairpins (4), belt buckles (6), belt hooks (2), belt plaques (2), animal miniatures (6), scholar's desk items (9), personal use items (9), pendants (6), and miscellaneous/unlabelled items (7).

Tim Choy donated the collection to Pacific University in honor of Phillip and Leigh Creighton.
