- The Department of Journalism was founded in 1948. It initially offered only a limited number of undergraduate courses in reporting, editing, and magazine and editorial writing, but under Professors Quintis C. Wilson (1948-1961), Parry D. Sorenson (1961-1962), and Milton C. Hollstein (1962-1973) the department grew steadily and by the end of the period encompassed by this collection offered MA and MS degrees. In 1973, Journalism became one of three divisions in the Department of Communication. This collection contains correspondence, memoranda, and annual reports of the Department of Journalism. Included are materials related to the activities of the University of Utah Publications Council and the local chapter of the professional journalism society Sigma Delta Chi.
