Biographical NoteReturn to Top

The Montana Horse Breeders Association (MHBA) was founded on September 30, 1908, “to promote the legitimate interest of the breeders by encouraging the breeding of the highest type of all classes of horses and the development of the same To help to secure such legislation as will foster, protect, and encourage the horse breeding industry and suppress and prevent all frauds and vices pertaining thereto, and to disseminate information that will be valuable to stallion and mare owners.” Affiliated with the Montana Stallion Registration Board (MSRB), also created in 1909, the MHBA met several times prior to becoming inactive in 1917. The MSRB was abolished in 1943, and its duties transferred to the Livestock Sanitary Board. According to the Montana Secretary of State business registry, two other entities calling themselves by the same name as the MHBA were also been founded in later years, one which was established in 1965 and became inactive in 1997, and another which spanned the years 2006-2011. Neither of these later organizations appear to have been the successors of the first named group.
