Ray Corey was born in Piper City, Illinois, and educated at Purdue University. He became an engineer who specialized in water supply and sewage disposal plant design and construction. From 1932-1939, he was state engineering inspector for Oregon and Washington Public Works Administration (P.W.A) projects, and from 1939-1952, worked as a consulting engineer.

The collection consists of scrapbook albums that contain photographs of construction details for major projects in which Corey was involved.

The volumes are arbitrarily numbered as follows and subjects include:

Volume 1: City reservoir and street railway, for Utah Light and Railway Co., Salt Lake City, 1907.

Volume 2: Tintic smelter, Silver City, Utah, 1908-1910.

Volume 3: Bull Run conduit, Portland, Oregon, 1911; Guild's Lake garbage incinerator, Portland, 1912; North Yakima, Washington, water supply system, 1911; North Yakima gas plant, 1911.

Volume 4: Coos Bay, Oregon, water supply project, 1926; Salem, Oregon, water supply project, 1928-1930; water supply projects at Hillsboro, Oregon, Hoquiam, Vancouver, and Mt. Vernon, Washington, 1928-1930.

Volumes 5-6: Schools, libraries, Oregon State Capitol, and other public building construction under W.P. A., Oregon and Washington, 1932-1939.

Volumes 7, 8 and 9: Sewage disposal plants, water works, and bridge construction under P.W.A., Oregon and Washington, 1932-1939. Includes Oregon coast highway bridges.

Volume 10: Water works, sewage disposal plants, and other public projects, Oregon and Washington, 1939-1952. Includes Tongue Point Naval Station.
