Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The Karsmizki collection contains 7 linear feet of files pertaining to Fort Ellis, Missouri River steamboats (in and out of Montana), Yellowstone National Park, Lewis and Clark, and a variety of Karsmizki’s reports on various research projects. The bulk of this collection consists National Archives reproductions with occasional annotations from Karsmizki. The collection includes various contemporary records generated by the Fort Ellis garrison, the army contingent in charge of Yellowstone National Park, and notes, photocopies, and other materials dealing with the Lewis and Clark expedition, Missouri River steamboat wrecks and sinkings, and a wide variety of research reports Karsmizki composed while on assignment for projects sponsored by the Museum of the Rockies and other agencies. Audiocassette tapes documenting a speech Karsmizki made at the January 24, 1980 meeting of the Gallatin County Historical Society regarding the Lewis and Clark Caverns, and oral history interviews conducted with Mary B. Tallman, Mary Brook Brickson, and Mazie Mitchell Wolverton have also been included with this collection. A typed transcription of the interviews, which concern the Lewis and Clark Caverns, teaching at Homestake, Montana, and the Montana Civilian Conservation Corps accompany the tapes.
