Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Alfred C. Emery was born January 4, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He received his B.S. (1940) and J.D. (1947) degrees from the University of Utah. He joined the faculty of the College of Law in 1947. In 1965, he was appointed Academic Vice President, and was named Provost in 1967 which he retained for two years. Afterwards, he returned to his full-time professorship in the Law School. In 1971, when James C. Fletcher left his office as President of the University to direct N.A.S.A., Dr. Emery assumed the vacated position until a national search for a new president could be conducted. Upon the inauguration of David Pierpont Gardner in 1973, Dr. Emery returned to the College of Law.
