Robert Bigart is Librarian Emeritus at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo, Montana, on the Flathead Indian Reservation and has written and edited publications on the history of Montana Native Americans.

This collection includes copies of letters from Charles Aubrey, trader and then Blackfoot Reservation Agency farmer and freighter, in the Browning, Montana area, 1905-1908, and correspondence by or about Native Americans, 1905-1929, mostly in Montana and a few from other areas including Nebraska, Canada, and Oklahoma. Some of the Native Americans writing from Montana are White Shield, Little Whirlwind, Patrick Spotted Wolf and Anna Spotted Wolf from Ashland, Yellow Kidney from the Holy Family Mission near Browning and Chief Laban Little Wolf from Busby.
