Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Photograph album of Arthur W. Lasheck, a member of Civilian Conservation Corps Company 1636, documenting the unit's camps and activities from May 1934 to May 1935, while based in Meacham, Oregon, and at Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach, Oregon. The album pages include handwritten captions. A number of photographs depict Company 1636's camps, primarily Camp Emigrant Springs in Meacham; these include scenes of tents and buildings, and of members of the company (most unidentified). There are also shots of work activities. Other images show places near the Meacham camp, including Meacham Lake, landscape scenes on the way to Pendleton, and various locations and buildings in Pendleton. There are also photographs of events and recreational activities, among them a parade in Baker on July 4, 1934; a celebration of the opening of the Pendleton airport on June 2, 1934; and the Pendleton Round-Up in September 1934. Also depicted are views along the Columbia River Highway and at the Oregon coast, including Chapman Beach, Crescent Beach, Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, and Ecola State Park.
