Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Media technology/broadcast education was first taught at LCC in the late 1960s. Early references to media/broadcast education were concerned mainly with establishing the college radio station, now KLCC-FM and using television to broadcast course offerings. The first listing of the Media Arts and Technology Department was in the 1991-1992 college catalog. The Media Arts and Technology Department is currently in the Arts Division.
Media Arts includes two programs: Multimedia Design provides students with an introduction to various aspects of multimedia. The program teaches a combination of audio engineering, video production, computer technology, and studio arts and theory. The Graphic Design program teaches both design theory and design production for print and the web.
Content DescriptionReturn to Top
This collection contains visual and audio materials produced by Media Arts. In the 1970s and 1980s, Media Arts produced slide shows with color slides and accompanying audio tapes with scripts. The slide shows were used in marketing and publicity for the college and its programs. The slide shows showcase the college and the campus, students in various programs, and services for students provided by the college. The collection contains the slides organized in the slide shows, as well as slides organized by department or topic. Many of the slide shows are accompanied by audio cassette tapes.
The second series contains videos of telecasts on LCC Channel 12 which were reported and produced by Media Arts students in 1998-1999. The news reports highlighted daily events and activities at the college.
The third series contains “Media Messages”, a Media Department newsletter, 1995-1997. Also, there are ten color photographs showing students setting up equipment for the LCC 12 television coverage of the men’s basketball championship tournament at Chemeketa Community College in Salem in March 1999.
