Brother Juniper, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, joined the staff of St. Christopher's Mission to the Navajo in Bluff, Utah, in 1943. He went to help with the building of the mission and ended up staying for twenty-seven years.

Brother Juniper's tales of Navajoland (1943-1970) is a 128-page typed volume recording the experiences and daily life of Brother Juniper, of the St. Christopher's Mission, with the Navajo in Bluff, Utah. Most of the entries describe incidents experienced by mission staff. Interwoven are Navajo beliefs and mannerisms.
