Summary
The office of Economic and Community Development provided business and urban development research and services; supervised the Utah Engineering Station, Research Park, and the Division of Continuing Education; and provided legislative and governmental relations services. During the period covered by these records, L. Ralph Mecham and Raymond L. Hixson served as Vice President for Economic and Community Development. In August 1973 the office of Economic and Community Development was abolished. The new office of University Relations still contained economic research and community development, government relations, and the Research Park, but now also included alumni programs, athletics, development, and public relations. Raymond L. Hixson became the first Vice President for University Relations in 1974 and remained in the position until 1975 when he was succeeded by Reuben J. Snow. This collection contains correspondence, memoranda, clippings, and reports of the offices of the Vice President for Economic and Community Development and Vice President for University Relations.

This collection contains correspondence, memoranda, clippings, and reports of the offices of the Vice President for Economic and Community Development and Vice President for University Relations. The materials are from the files of Raymond L. Hixon. The bulk of the collection concerns economic and business research, alumni programs, development, athletics, and legislative relations. Also included are materials related to the attempt to secure a space satellite launching facility (Spaceport) for Utah in 1971-1972.
