Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Boise Futures Foundation, a nonprofit research and educational organization, was established in 1978 to study the natural and human resource systems in Ada County. The Foundation was a private planning entity housed on the Boise State University Campus in the Office of Research Administration. The initial focus of its study was the carrying capacity, which is a measure of an area's ability to support varying numbers of people and their activities at different quality of life levels. The study analyzed the area's ability to accommodate development and recommended guidelines to be followed as the Boise area grew. In 1982, the Foundation published six volumes of their findings.
