Laura Judy wrote three papers on "Pioneer Women of Amity" for the Amity Study Club. Judy appears to be the niece of Buffum. Little additional information on Judy is available.

Caroline Thurman was born in 1814, in Ohio. She moved to Fulton County, Illinois, where she married William Gilbert Buffum in 1828 at the age of 14 (her husband was 24). In spring of 1845, she and her husband started across the plains to Oregon. They reached Oregon in 1847. Buffum died on November 5, 1895.
