Biographical NoteReturn to Top

During World War II the United States issued numerous instruction packets for media outlets to explain the necessity and proper use of food and gasoline rationing coupons and to encourage citizen conservation of materials necessary for the war effort. At the same time, the Government Printing Office produced many recruiting brochures to encourage enlistment in all branches of service, including the active solicitation of women recruits. Other materials issued by the GPO included war propaganda. Much of this material was discarded at war’s end.
