The records of The Wilderness Society-Idaho Regional Office span approximately from 1967 to 2004. The bulk of the material covers the years 1972 to 1979 and was produced in response to the U.S. Forest Service Roadless Area Review and Evaluation plans, RARE (1972) and RARE II (1977). Included in the records are correspondence, maps, reports, transcriptions of testimonies, hearings, inventory of roadless areas, mailing lists, and news clippings dealing with conservation issues in Idaho.

Arrangement

Box 1 includes materials from accessions MA 1994-23 and MA 1996-07. These materials are organized by year, except for the Idaho Centennial Trail, which is identified as such and accession MA 1994-23, one folder. Reports are arranged at the rear of the box. Boxes 2 to 6 include materials from accession MA 1989-44. These materials are unfoldered and the original order was maintained. The materials in these boxes seem to be grouped by areas or projects. A rough description of the content is provided in the inventory of the boxes. Note that this description is neither exhaustive nor exclusive. There might exist other subjects and projects inside each box as well as more of the same in different boxes.

Custodial History

The records of The Wilderness Society - Idaho Regional Office were in the possession of the Idaho Regional Office members in Boise until time of donation.

Acquisition Information

The records of The Wilderness Society-Idaho Regional Office were donated to the University of Idaho Library by the Idaho Regional Office members in October 1989 (MA 1989-44), August 1994 (MA 1994-23), and June 1996 (MA 1996-07).

Processing Note

This collection was processed using the Basic processing method. The collection was reduced by 1.5 cubic feet.

Separated Materials

Publications were removed and placed into a separate manuscript group Conservation Reports and Publications (MG 449).
