Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Benjamin Dailey was a Montana pioneer who traveled west in 1866. He probably started his trip along the Platte River Road before turning north with his party along the Bozeman Road on July 26, 1866. Dailey recorded the party's progress with lengthy entries that give detailed description of the countryside, Indian rumors, encounters with soldiers, and other incidents along the trail. The Dailey party arrived in Virginia City on September 8, 1866.
