Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The collection consists of correspondence from Landreth to his family during WWII, lectures delivered at Ft. Leavenworth, biographical material, and a publication by Landreth titled Washington Diaries, 1933-1935.

Correspondence includes letters written by Col. Landreth to his family (1942-1945) while he was at headquarters, Ft. Richardson, Alaska, with the 43d Division in the Solomon Islands, and as chief of staff, II Island Command. The correspondence shows he was in the Fiji Islands, Russell Islands, and New Caledonia. The letters indicate that military life can be boring to a colonel as well as to a private -- though more comfortably so.

Correspondence also includes general letters, 1913-1964, including five letters from Governor Ernest Gruening.
