Robert C. Pendleton served as professor of biology (1961-1982) and director of the Department of Radiological Health at the University of Utah. This collection contains correspondence, personal research, and reprints of publications. Also included are newspaper clippings and press releases on the effects of radiation, especially fallout from nuclear weapons test sites in Nevada. The collection also contains class syllabi.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Dr. Pendleton was born in Torrey, Utah on November 5, 1918. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in 1946, his master's degree the following year and his doctorate in 1952. Dr. Pendleton was active in studying the effects of radioactive fallout through the food chain. He served on the Utah Nuclear Energy Commission, the Utah Council on Science and Technology, and was named to the National Academy of Sciences committee on radioactive waste management. Dr. Pendleton died July 10, 1982.
