The Pacific Northwest History Conference is a forum for exchange among historians, scholars from other disciplines, museum professionals, educators, archivists, historic preservationists, graduate students, history enthusiasts, and community activists. It is sponsored by the Washington State Historical Society and has been annually meeting since 1951. In 1973, the Conference met in Bozeman, Montana, and was attended by many Montana historians and public figures for the presentation of formal papers and panel discussions.

The Proceedings of the 1973 Pacific Northwest History Conference consist of four audiocassettes and three typed transcriptions of: a panel discussion on journalism by A. B. Guthrie, Jr., Hal Stearns, Mel Ruder, and moderated by Sam Gilluly; a panel discussion on Senator Thomas J. Walsh by Richard T. Ruetten, J. Leonard Bates, David H. Stratton, and William B. Evans; a paper titled “Two Approaches to Disease Control, the case of Rocky Mountain Spotted Feaver” delivered by Pierce C. Proceedings of the 1973 Pacific Northwest History Conference were recorded by Montana State University personnel and later transcribed by them. The materials were transferred to the library in 1985.
