Summary
The Fred A. Rosenstock papers (1849-1970) consist of business letters and research materials dealing with the history of the Western United States. The bulk of the materials consists of correspondence between Fred Rosenstock and Dale Morgan concerning publishing activities and personal correspondence from various persons to Alphonso Jennings, a western outlaw. Also included are a few historical items: a photocopy and transcript of an 1849 overland diary of Hugh Skinner, a letter from J. Exton to Hepworth Dixon (1868), and a letter from James W. Porter to Charlotte Porter Avery (1859). Fred Rosenstock (1895-1986) was a bookstore owner who's main interest was the history of the West.

Historical NoteReturn to Top

Fred Asher Rosenstock was born on 29 November 1895 in Austria. In 1913 his family moved to Rochester, New York. Rosenstock moved West in 1920 for health reasons and settled in Denver where he opened his first bookstore. He married Frances Goodman in 1926 and opened another bookstore. He published textbooks for Colorado school, as well as western books. His press was called "The Old West Publishing Company." In 1981, he sold his bookstore and opened an art gallery featuring western art. He died in 1986.
