Irving Story was a professor of English at Pacific University in the 1930s-1940s who wrote about the poet Walt Whitman. He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Cornell university. He was particularly interested in Whitman's Leaves of Grass. He published The Structural Pattern of Leaves of Grass in 1942. He was born in 1892.

This collection is comprised of Irving Story's collection of notes, offprints, publication notices and ephemera related to his research on Walt Whitman, including a copy of: Catalogue of the Whitman Collection in the Duke University Library, being a part of the Trent Collection (Durham, NC: Duke University Library, 1945).
