Earl Grady Paules (1891 - ) graduated from the U. S. Military Academy, and as a colonel of the 18th Engineers he was in command of Alaska highway construction in the Whitehorse, Yukon Territory - White River sector, and then of the Northwest sector. The collection (1942-1963) contains a diary, correspondence, a history of the construction of the Whitehorse sector prepared by the Operations Section, 18th Engineers (1943), publications, and reel-to-reel film and photographs of Alaskan highway construction.

Earl Grady Paules (1891 - ) was born in Marietta, Pennsylvania and graduated from the U. S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. In 1942, as colonel of the 18th Engineers, he was in command of Alaska highway construction in the Whitehorse, Yukon Territory - White River sector, and then of the Northwest sector.

The collection (1942-1963) contains a diary, correspondence, a history of the construction of the Whitehorse sector prepared by the Operations Section, 18th Engineers (1943), publications, and reel-to-reel film and photographs of Alaskan Highway construction.

The diary was written from February 2 - December 31, 1942.

The correspondence is from 1942-1963 and includes Paules report on the Alcan Highway (the Alaskan-Canadian Highway) in 1963.

The three reels of film include a newsreel motion picture of the highway, by Hamilton Wright Organizations, Inc. (1942), Alaskan Highway (color) and Alcan Highway films by U.S. Engineers.

A photo album contains pictures illustrating construction of the Alcan Highway.

There are also 231 loose photographs of Alcan Highway construction work.

Also available are publications that include articles regarding the Alaskan highways, and a WPA publication titled, Oregon, End of the Trail, 1st edition, 1940.
