Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Dr. Boyer Jarvis' forty year long career at the University of Utah began in 1956 when he joined the department of Speech (after 1974 called the department of Communication) as an Assistant Professor lacking the Ph. D. He retired a full Professor in 1989, having at various times held the positions of Dean of the College of Letters and Science, Director and Dean of the Summer School, Administrator of Theatre Activities, Assistant to the President, Dean of Admissions and Registration, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs under five presidents. A native of Springville, Utah, Professor Jarvis received his doctorate from Northwestern University in 1958. He and his wife Pat are the parents of three children.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The majority of the materials in this collection (budgets, committee agendas, committee minutes, contracts, correspondence, memoranda, reports, etc.) were generated in the decades following Dr. Jarvis' return to the university after a stint in Washington D. C. as assistant to U. S. Education Commissioner Sterling McMurrin in the early 1960's. All records are foldered alphabetically by subject in two series, both of which contain university related materials--however most of the records reflecting Dr. Jarvis's administrative responsibilities as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs are located in the first, called "Alphabetical Files".
