Historical NoteReturn to Top
Nellie "Nell" Miller Seely (1878-1968), a daughter of Oregon pioneers, was born July 14, 1878 at Junction City, Oregon. She became a song-writer, milliner, painter and poet. Her poetry appeared in several anthologies and newspapers. Blue Night was the best known of her published songs. Seely was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and several songwriters groups. In addition to her own writings, Seely wrote music for other lyricists and piano arrangements. During her writing career, Seely lived in Lebanon, Sweet Home, and Portland, Oregon.

The collection contains correspondence, published and unpublished music manuscripts, music notebooks, photographs, memorabilia, and phonograph records.
The correspondence contains incoming letters (1939-1965) which are alphabetically arranged by title or name, and includes business and personal correspondence.
The published music series is alphabetically arranged by title of work, as is the unpublished music series. There are also 46 music notebooks in the collection.
The memorabilia series consists of scrapbooks, photographs, phonograph records, and a list of copyright songs.
