Historical NoteReturn to Top

Migrographics concerns of the WSU Libraries date from about 1940. By 1960 microform material had become an important component of the library's holdings and by 1980 the libraries held over one million microform units.

One microfilm project of note was the newspaper filming project of the 1950's. The project was started in reponse to a 1951 State Legislature appropriation of $20,000 for microfilming historical newspapers of Washington. Specific newspapers were being collected from libraries and sent to the Washington State Library for microfilming.

Arrangement

The collection is arranged in a single alphabetical series. The series includes correspondence, reports, publications, and projects spanning the years 1940 through 1965.

The folder on micrographics equipment covers the types of equipment that were available and being used by the University Libaries from 1946-1965. The general correspondence folder contains material that reflects the University Libraries interest in and utilization of microfilm from 1940 to 1965.

The micrographics files are not originally from any one library office but were assembled together because they dealt with similar subject matter.

Acquisition Information

The micrographics files of University Libraries were transferred to the Washington State University Archives on August 1, 1978 (UA78-25).

Processing Note

The records were processed by Leslie J. Tevebaugh in December of 1984.
