Marmion D. Mills was a transportation engineer and consultant who worked at one time for General Motors. Mills is reported to have been an proponent of tearing out streetcar and trolley tracks to make way for automobile and bus lanes.

The collection contains studies of urban transportation systems for companies or for municipalities, with occasional correspondence. Mills authored many of the reports and studies but other authors are Paul Opperman, James Myers, and James Ellis.

The paper finding aid contains a listing of most of the content in the collection.

Buffalo Transit Co., 1948-1949; Golden Gate Transit case (Pacific Greyhound lines), 1954; National City Lines, Inc., 1935-1938; North Coast Transportation Co. and Portland-Seattle Stage Co., 1926-1929; Oklahoma City Railway Co., 1946-1948; San Francisco Municipal Railway, 1950-1954; Seattle Transit System, 1938- 1942; Tacoma Railway and Power Co., Tacoma transit project, 1937-1938; Vancouver, B.C., British Columbia Electric Co. transit service report, 1952-1953.
