Content Description

The collection (1877-1928) contains correspondence regarding family and Oregon society, and photographs.

Correspondence consists of sixty-five letters and concerns family matters and social news.

Correspondents are Mrs. M. J. Courtney, address unknown, 1877-1880; Richard Blackwood, Tombstone, Arizona, 1880-1881; and Kate Murray, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 1892-1897.

The collection also includes five photographs of Blackwood and friends or family, circa 1900-1928; one photograph is a portrait of Andy Boise, an African-American man, in a suit with cane, c. 1880s. Photographs have been separated from the rest of the collection for preservation reasons, and are stored under the call number, PH236.

Historical Note

Lillian Caldwell Blackwood was an Oregon pioneer who lived in Jacksonville, Oregon. Her correspondence received includes letters from Mrs. M. J. Courtney (address unknown), 1877-1880; Richard Blackwood, Tombstone, Arizona, 1880-1881; and Kate Murray, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 1892-1897. They all concern family matters and social news.
