The Kleinschmidt papers consist of a military discharge certificate made out to Jacob F. Blattner, three stock certificates issued by the Copper Bell Mining Company of Helena issued to Theodore H. Kleinschmidt on January 6, 1890, and a homestead certificate issued by the United States General Land Office for Antony Claus for 160 acres near Helena, Montana, issued October 19, 1883.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Alice Marie Goodson was born on March 16, 1883 in Lancashire, England and moved to the United States afterwards. She married Erwin H Kleinschmidt of Bozeman and the couple had three children. Following Erwin’s death in 1921, Alice continued to live in Bozeman. She eventually moved to Garden Grove, California, where she died in May, 1971.

The Kleinschmidt papers consist of a military discharge certificate made out to Jacob F. Blattner, the maternal grandfather of Erwin H. Kleinschmidt. Blattner had been a private in the 4th Iowa Cavalry and was discharged on May 30, 1865. Three stock certificates issued by the Copper Bell Mining Company of Helena, Montana are also in the collection. The shares were issued to Theodore H. Kleinschmidt, the father of Erwin H. Kleinschmidt, on January 6, 1890. The final item in the collection is a homestead certificate issued by the United States General Land Office for Antony Claus for 160 acres near Helena, Montana, issued October 19, 1883. The relationship between Claus and the Kleinschmidt family is unclear.
